Some days are especially meaningful to share. On 30 June, we had the privilege of welcoming the riders, management and support staff of the Decathlon Cycling Team to La Serra for a day together before the start of the Tour de France.
A pause amid the preparations for one of the biggest events in the cycling calendar: a chance to meet, talk and spend an afternoon together in peaceful surroundings, close to nature.
Time together, space to unwind
The day began with the arrival of the riders and team directors. La Serra’s outdoor spaces and swimming pools were ready to welcome them and offer a few hours of rest and conversation before they joined the rest of the group.
The support staff arrived later, bringing the group to 42 people. It was an opportunity for everyone who makes a sporting project like this possible to spend time together beyond training and competition.
Our multipurpose room hosted a speech by Dominique, the team director, bringing the whole group together before taking on the Tour.
A taste of our region
Food was part of the experience too. At La Serra, together with one of the chefs we work with, we prepared an informal dinner of tapas and small dishes, designed for sharing and enjoying at a relaxed pace.
Local produce, homemade dishes and flavours from our region: bread with tomato and Iberian ham, potato omelette with caramelised onion, portobello mushrooms with cod cream, and Catalan-style chicken, among other dishes. To finish, small chocolate, lemon and carrot desserts.
The eight riders had their own dinner, prepared by the team chef in his food truck. We coordinated the spaces and timings to accommodate everyone’s needs and help the whole group feel at home.
Taking care of the details to welcome a team
Behind that afternoon were weeks of conversations and preparations: organising the spaces and meals, getting drinks and refreshments ready, and adapting each part of the day to the team’s schedule.
This approach reflects who we are. At La Serra, we like to listen to our guests and create stays and gatherings that bring together sport, rest and time with others.
Welcoming the Decathlon Cycling Team before the Tour de France was a very special experience. Thank you to the whole team for your trust and for letting us be part, for a few hours, of the journey towards a great adventure.
